Touching is one of the primary ways in which humans get in contact with reality, discover their world, and interact with the environment around them.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized that, while with our hands we are able to unfold the world in front of our eyes, by touching we open ourselves to this reality as well. This reminded us another essential feature of human experiences: being vulnerable.

As a result, we are witnessing necessary changings in the way we live our everyday life, we experience the environment we dwell within, and we build our mutual interactions.

In certain areas, using personal protection equipment such as rubber gloves or similar, has become crucial in order to stay safe while carrying out even ordinary tasks and everyday activities.

Consequently, it has become necessary to monitor and verify the actual use of gloves, in order to offer safe and healthy places where individuals can perform their own tasks, run their errands, fulfil their own projects, with the lowest risk possible. While necessary and fundamental, constant and effective monitoring can require remarkable amounts of time, resources and efforts, with no guarantee of achieving a valid and fully satisfying result.

The Gloves Detection Engine developed by IKM provides a solution that ensures:

• Extensive and Constant Monitoring of the areas, focusing on the matter at hand: the use of gloves, yet offering Precision and Instant Visibility in case of a violation, which allows Targeted and Fast Interventions, making it possible Not to waste important resources, that could be assigned to other crucial tasks.

IKM Gloves Detection Engine is designed to analyse in real time and with no human mediation a video stream, recognizing all hands appearing into it, identifying them with a unique ID, tracking them and, most importantly, detecting the ones not wearing gloves.

When spotting hands without gloves, the engine will create a so called “Event”: a data package including the frame showing the bare hand, a video including up to 5 seconds before and 15 seconds after the detected event, and the hand’s owner’s face, in order to avoid multiple tracking and to identify the people actually involved in the event.

The Event, and the associated generated alarm, will help the resources assigned to supervision, making possible for them to know exactly where to look at, to identify immediately the violator and to intervene rapidly and in a targeted way.

The comprehensive, precise and goal-oriented analysis performed by the IKM Gloves Detection Engine will help in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all people accessing it, allowing them to keep on experiencing, interacting, feeling, staying in contact with the reality that constitutes their universe.
